Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
