Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
