Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
