Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
