Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
