Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
