Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
