Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
