Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
