Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
