Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
