Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
