Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
