Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
