Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
