Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
