Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
