Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
