Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
