Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
