Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
