Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
