Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
