Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
