Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
