Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
