Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
