Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
