Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
