Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
