Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
