Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
