Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
