Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
