Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
