Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
