Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
