Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
