Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
