Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
