Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
