Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
