Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
