Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
