Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
