Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
