Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
