Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
