Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
