Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
